Art in the Park is returning this Saturday — and this Sunday, marking the first two-day run for the event since 1964, according to Jen Unekis of the Lawrence Art Guild.
The guild is hosting more than 120 local and regional artists, many of them deeply affected by the pandemic, Unekis said via email.
“The Art Guild believes the arts are very important to the Lawrence community and they hope people come spend a beautiful day in the park, purchase art and put a smile on an artist’s face,” Unekis said. Proceeds support Lawrence Art Guild artist programs, and a percentage of sales will be given to its high school scholarship art program, she said.
There will also be food trucks, musicians, and an activity area for kids. Festivities are slated for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, at South Park.
“It will be a beautiful time to bring your lawn chairs and spend a beautiful day in the park,” Unekis said.
You can get a sneak peek of the wares at the Phoenix Gallery, which is hosting the Art in the Park Preview Show. Unekis said 35 artists who will be at the park this weekend have artwork on display at the gallery, 825 Massachusetts St. There are also many photos posted, plus more information about the event, on this Facebook page.
The guild is working with public health officials and the Lawrence Parks and Recreation department to ensure guests stay safe, Unekis said.
