The crash occurred just after 6 p.m. Friday in the 800 block of North 1800 Road, which is just east of the road’s intersection with Kansas Highway 10.

“According to preliminary information, the driver of a westbound vehicle crossed the center line and struck an eastbound vehicle head-on,” George Diepenbrock, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, said Friday evening. “Medics transported the driver of the westbound vehicle from the scene.”

However, Gilroy did not survive the crash.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle was Cassidy Goering, of Fairview, Diepenbrock said Tuesday. Goering was examined at the scene for injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, Diepenbrock said.

Gilroy, known to colleagues as J.C., was an attorney in Douglas County.

The full crash report was not yet complete Tuesday, Diepenbrock said.
