Douglas County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is hosting its first Cornhole for CASA event on Sunday with hopes of starting an annual tradition and connecting with more community members.
All the competitive cornhole tournament slots have filled up; however, there will be drop-in cornhole available for attendees, according to a news release about the event.
A kids’ zone, free to enjoy, will feature a meet-and-greet with the KU volleyball team and Baby Jay, face painting, popcorn, photo opportunities, and of course, cornhole for kiddos.
Douglas County CASA volunteers aim to support kids in the foster system by providing some stability and care, “ensuring they are known, seen, and heard throughout the legal process,” according to the release.
“Approximately 165 children are in foster care in Douglas County at any given time,” according to the release. “Douglas County CASA is currently able to support and advocate on behalf of 101 of those kids and hopes this event will help expand their reach.”
Registration is required to attend Cornhole for CASA, set for 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 7 at Abe & Jake’s Landing, 8 E. Sixth St. in Lawrence. Save your spot by filling out the form at this link. By registering, you’ll be entered for a chance to win an Apple TV and other prizes, according to the release.
The event is free to attend, though donations are appreciated.
Proceeds from the event will directly support the recruitment, training and supervision of CASA volunteers, according to the release. Learn more about CASA on the organization’s website, dccasaks.org.
