The Lawrence High School drumline kept a steady beat as the Lawrence Juneteenth parade made its way down Massachusetts Street on Saturday morning.

People gathered along the sidewalks and cheered as community leaders, students and other participants proudly carried out their parts.

Along with LHS’ drumline, Lawrence All-Star Cheer team and Topeka’s Unity High Steppers drill team performed. Lawrence police and fire trucks rolled through, too.

The daylong celebration of Black freedom was set to continue with activities and music in downtown Lawrence through 8 p.m. Saturday.
