Jeremy M. Treat, 53, of Dana Point, CA, passed away on September 11, 2023.

Jeremy was born on December 22, 1969 in Hays, Kansas. The Treat family later relocated to Rapid City, South Dakota, where Jeremy lived until the family moved to Murphysboro, Illinois when he was in high school. A gifted athlete, Jeremy set records for the 100-meter dash and shot put, an unusual combination.

Jeremy’s love of sports continued throughout his life. He was a devoted fan of the Chicago Bears and loved watching sports of all kinds, and he especially loved shooting hoops, playing football, and spending time with his children and the beguiling dogs he loved over the course of his life. A day spent out on a tranquil lake fishing was his favorite kind of day. Throwing dice on a craps table with his best friend was a close second.

A gifted cook, for many years, Jeremy managed restaurants in Texas and the Kansas City area and owned his own establishment. After leaving the restaurant industry, he continued to enjoy cooking for family and friends…all of whom were eager recipients of his culinary talents.

But, much more than sports, his canine friends, or fine dining, Jeremy most loved family. The devoted father of two sons and two stepsons, being a Dad was Jeremy’s primary source of joy and pride. The four young men who knew and loved him as a father never doubted his love or abiding commitment to them, and they will miss him (and his humor, amazing steak dinners, silly texted memes, and sports acumen) dearly.

Jeremy will also be remembered for his tender heart, playful blue eyes, and understated dry wit.

Jeremy is survived by his sons Coy and Cooper Treat, his stepsons Nick and Jacob Reber, his wife Kathy Treat, his parents Rev. Jimmie and Marcia Treat, his siblings Julia, John, and James Treat, his Aunt Nancy Forbes, his best friend Steve Kane, and many cousins, in-laws, and friends who will always remember him with love.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 13 at 11 am in Lawrence, Kansas. Please visit https://www.paperlesspost.com/go/y8kk2WDiAlbglWS49pPlK for details and to RSVP.

Always grateful for his ancestry, Jeremy was an enrolled member of the Muskogee Creek Nation, and his family invites memorials in Jeremy’s honor to be made to the Oglala Lakota Children’s Justice Center serving the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, home of the Oglala Sioux Tribe.
