As darkness sets in at 6 p.m. Friday, community members will count down before the lights strung throughout downtown will be lit to usher in the holiday season.

Then, look to the roof of Weaver’s Department Store, where Santa Claus will find himself in need of rescue yet again. Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical will be there to get him back on solid ground.

The annual event is set for 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24 in the area of Ninth and Massachusetts streets.
