Woman injured, dog killed in Lawrence hit-and-run; police seek driver

A 74-year-old woman suffered critical injuries and her dog was killed in a crash Monday morning in Lawrence, according to the Lawrence Police Department.

The woman was walking with her dog shortly before 8 a.m. at 23rd Street and Barker Avenue. A vehicle struck them and did not stop, according to a social media post from LPD.

The woman was taken to an area trauma center, according to police.

“If you can identify the driver of this vehicle, or see a grey Dodge sedan with front end damage, specifically on the passenger side of the front end, contact dispatch at (785)832-7509,” police wrote.

Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Lawrence and Douglas County by calling 785-843-TIPS (8477).

Update, 12:41 p.m. Tuesday, March 19:

Police posted to Facebook Tuesday morning that “Detectives located the car and have interviewed the driver. The investigation is ongoing and we will keep you updated as it progresses.”
