Sara (Reichenberger) Murray has been selected as the next assistant principal and athletics director for Billy Mills Middle School, according to a news release from the Lawrence school district on Monday.

Murray is currently director of field experiences in the University of Kansas School of Education and Human Sciences. She received her bachelor’s degree in education at Pittsburg State University, master’s degrees in curriculum and instruction and in educational administration at Emporia State University, and is completing her doctorate in educational administration at KU, according to the release.

She previously worked as a curriculum and instructional learning coach in Lawrence Public Schools for four years, and she served as a special education and family and consumer sciences teacher for five years in other districts.

“She also worked as a research project coordinator for a year at KU, partnering with school districts in data analysis, training, and the development of an educational model and professional learning structures to meet students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs,” according to the release.

Murray said in the release that she’s excited to return to Lawrence Public Schools and honored to serve the students, families and staff at BMMS.

“I look forward to building relationships, learning the traditions of the school, and becoming a part of the Cougar family!” Murray said in the release.

BMMS Principal Andrew Taylor said in the release that he’s thrilled Murray will be joining the team.

“As a result of our staff’s hard work, our school has gained some positive momentum during the last few years. Sara will help us continue this upward trajectory,” Taylor said in the release. “With her excellent communication skills, positive attitude, and strong focus on using data to improve student achievement, Sara will be a wonderful addition to our school community.”

Murray’s position will be effective July 1, pending school board approval. She will succeed Kady Carson, who was recently selected as principal of West Middle School.
