Brooklynne Mosley, an Air Force veteran and community organizer living in East Lawrence, has kicked off her campaign for Kansas House of Representatives District 46.
Mosley, 40, served 10 years of active duty as a combat veteran of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. She’s a “Missourian by birth and Jayhawk by the Grace of God,” according to a news release from her campaign. She has worked as an organizer and campaign operative from local politics to the national level. She filed for office in January and launched her campaign Sunday with an event at Milton’s Cafe.
Mosley, a Democrat, cited goals of extending property tax relief programs to help keep seniors in homes; addressing food insecurity and the threat of climate change; and expanding voting rights to improve access to voting for every Kansan who is eligible to cast a ballot. She has also shared goals of making child care more affordable, expanding Medicaid, establishing fair wages and addressing the state’s shortage of affordable housing.
“We are standing in the place where abolitionists bled to remain a free state, and within a few generations, we are seeing the attempted erasure of the very history that created our state,” Mosley said in the release. “I am still here because Kansas is worth fighting for.”
Brittany Kathleen Hall and Logan Ginavan have also filed to run as Democrats for District 46. No Republicans had filed for the seat as of Tuesday afternoon.
House District 46 covers roughly the northeastern quadrant of Lawrence, including downtown, KU’s campus and parts of North Lawrence. It is not a perfect square, but its northernmost boundary is Interstate 70; its westernmost boundary is Iowa Street; its southern border dips to 19th Street and continues east on 15th Street; and its eastern boundary runs approximately along Lindenwood Lane and along North Ninth Street in North Lawrence.
