The Lawrence school district has selected Mark Preut as the next principal of the Lawrence College and Career Center and Academy, Adult Education Services, and Alternative Programs.

Preut, current Lawrence High School associate principal, has been at LHS for 13 years, according to a news release from the district.

Preut received his bachelor’s degree at KU and master’s degree from Benedictine College. He previously held principal roles in Atchison County schools and at Maur Hill-Mount Academy. He also taught and coached debate, forensics and wrestling at at Maur Hill Prep/Maur Hill-Mount Academy, according to the release.

“I am excited to step into this new position and look forward to sustaining and growing the nationally recognized program at the College and Career Center and Academy,” Preut said in the release.

He said LHS will always hold a special place in his heart.

“It is where I began my career and have been blessed to work the past 13 years,” he said in the release. “For most of my career in education, I have focused on students who needed something different to be successful, and I am thrilled to work with CTE again and to support students from across the district.”

Preut takes the role following Bill DeWitt, who has accepted the principal position for Eudora High School. His position is effective July 1, pending school board approval.
