Rusty Taco, a downtown Lawrence taco franchise, is set to close its doors “indefinitely” Sunday evening.

“Lawrence, thank you for your support over the last two and a half years,” a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page Tuesday stated.

The restaurant opened at 945 Massachusetts St. in January 2022.

“We loved being part of the community, from the championship run to live music, events, and more,” Rusty Taco’s post continued. “Thank you for the wonderful memories.”

Another taco restaurant, Torchy’s Tacos, opened in 2021 near 31st and Iowa streets but closed its doors in August 2022. Ta Co. opened at at Eighth and Massachusetts streets in late 2019 but closed its doors in 2022 with plans to move to Topeka.

No one answered the phone at the restaurant Tuesday morning, and the franchise owner did not immediately respond to an email seeking further information about the closure.
