Paul Buskirk, the Democratic candidate running to represent Kansas’ “Big First Congressional District” that includes most of Lawrence, will participate in a forum Saturday.

Women for Kansas Lawrence/Douglas County Chapter is hosting the event, set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17 in the auditorium of the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St. All are welcome, according to event organizers.

Republican Rep. Tracey Mann, the incumbent, was invited to participate in the forum “but his campaign staff responded that he was unable to make it to Lawrence in time for this event,” organizers said.

“The public is invited to learn more about Candidate Buskirk’s platform on issues such as abortion and reproductive rights, gun violence, immigration, LBGTQ+ rights and more,” according to event organizers.

Buskirk will face Mann in the Nov. 5 general election.
