Sunrise Project, a Lawrence nonprofit designed to build community through social connection and food equity, must move out of its building soon.

The organization must move from its location at 1501 Learnard Ave. because the property will soon change ownership, according to an announcement from the organization’s board of directors on Monday.

The space is home to a greenhouse, porch pantry and more. Sunrise Project was one of the 2023 Tom and Anne Moore Peace and Justice Award recipients.

“Our space at 1501 Learnard became a true community hub over the past 7 years and our programs were uniquely shaped by this location,” according to the announcement. “Our move from here will require reflection and reorganization of our activities. We plan to take everything one step at a time, to be intentional and to prioritize our team’s well-being through this transition. We are committed to sharing information along the way and we welcome your thoughts, ideas and suggestions.”

The property has not already been sold. The owner said they are still considering options for it, and Sunrise Project is under no pressure to move out quickly.

For the time being, the organization’s programs will continue as planned, according to the announcement. Sunrise Project will share updates when it has to make changes to its schedule and activities.

The board welcomes connections to spaces that would work for Sunrise, sent to boardofdirectors@sunriseprojectks.org.

“We look forward to continuing to be in community with you and working together to maintain our beloved Sunrise Project as a haven of joy and connection… whenever and wherever we gather!” the announcement stated.
