Prairie Crawl invites community for art, music, food and exploration

Community members are invited to a festival of food, drink, music, art, and prairie games and adventure this weekend.

Gates open at noon Saturday, Sept. 7 for the event at The Burning Barrel, 292 North 2100 Road in Lecompton.

Brian Strecker and Kristin Werner opened the farm-restaurant and events space in 2022.

“Bring your picnic blankets, lawn chairs and pop-up tents for a farm-side festival. After you get set up on the concert lawn, grab a bite and a farm-fresh beverage, and meet our talented artists and makers,” event organizers wrote in a news release. “Between bands, take off to stroll through 20 acres of Native Prairie that lead to natural destinations and activity areas.”

Live music will include Western Cuts from 2 to 4 p.m.; The Roseline from 5 to 7 p.m.; and The Local Honeys from 8 to 10 p.m.

There will be seasonal food by Fox & PearlPublic at The Brickyard, craft beers by Central Standard Brewing and Lawrence Beer Co., and Burning Barrel’s own wine and spirits. Food will be available from noon to 8 p.m., and drinks from noon to 11 p.m. There will be a water station to refill bottles.

A local art market from noon to 7 p.m. will feature Delicate Hammer, Toro DesignsTreeline CreationsLuna SolLFK PressWind Earth Atelier, Sue’s From Kansas and more.

Tickets are $17.50 for kids ages 6 to 12 and $35 for ages 13 and up, available at burningbarrelkansas.com/wildfire-events.

Kids ages 5 and under may attend the rain-or-shine event for free, but please leave dogs at home as county code and farm safety protocols prohibit the entry of outside animals on the premises, according to the release.
