The Lawrence Art Guild invites you to stroll through South Park on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14 and 15, where more than 130 artists will be exhibiting their work.

Among these artists are painters, potters, ceramic artists, jewelers, printmakers, sculptors, mixed-media artists, woodworkers, photographers, glassmakers, paper artists, mosaic creators and more.

Each artist was carefully selected for their craftsmanship and unique vision, from Leslie Mason’s whimsical mixed-media birds fabricated from epoxy clay, found objects, acrylics, wood, and wire to the ceramic pieces of Osbaldo Gonzalez-Reyes, crafted from local, hand-dug Kansas clay and modeled from the rich ceramic traditions of the Huasteca region where his family originates from.

Among the two-dimensional artists, there are those whose works are luminous, or comical, serene or thought-provoking. Aimee Fresia’s work comes with social commentary; Iowa artist Kelsey Wilson’s highly detailed botanical paintings pay homage to the beauty of imperfections within nature. Paul Punzo’s vibrant and spontaneous prints bring a smile to the viewer’s face, and Kemi Radji’s paintings glow as though they are illuminated.

Among the photographers, Jon Bidwell focuses on the overlooked, the abandoned, and the abstract. And Russ and Chris Hadley capture the majesty of the Rocky Mountains and subtle beauty of the Flint Hills.

Lesser known art forms are also featured. Evan Johnson of Fred’s Paper will be at Art in the Park with his handcrafted paper. Evan works to craft beautiful paper using the abundant waste of other industries, including harvested corn stalks and discarded menus.

Paper work is also seen with the cut-paper and collage work of Angie Pickman, or with Kathie Duguid, who twirls thin strips of paper into intricate designs in an art form known as quilling. Erin McDaniel of A New Leaf, a Kansas City-based book studio, will have her handcrafted books. She uses a variety of materials and textures including leathers, fabrics, papers and woods in her Coptic, Japanese stab and Secret Belgian style bindings.
