University of Kansas students and supporters gathered Tuesday afternoon outside the Kansas Union to bring attention to KU’s “realignment” of campus centers focused on diversity.
The Office of Multicultural Affairs, Emily Taylor Center for Women and Gender Equity, and the Center for Sexuality and Gender Diversity were combined with the Student Involvement and Leadership Center in this “realignment,” according to an announcement from KU Student Affairs last week.
The new combined center is now called the Student Engagement Center, according to the announcement.
Students, faculty, alumni and a longtime former director of the ETC have raised concerns about the sudden move. Read more in this article from Sept. 9.
Students who are protesting the reorganization have created an Instagram, @saveourcentersku, to share information and raise awareness of the issues, and about the legacies of the centers that have been merged.
