Haskell Indian Nations University invites community members to learn about harvesting a bison before enjoying a meal together.
The bison harvest and cookout is through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Extension Program at Haskell. According to an event flyer, hosts include Haskell and the Southern Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes.
Beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, participants will learn about cultural methods and meanings to harvesting bison.
What’s yielded from the harvest will contribute to a feast with the help of several cooks the following day. The cookout is set to begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22.
Both events will be held at the Haskell Powwow Grounds, 2535 West Perimeter Road on campus. Tents will be set up, according to the flyer.
