An upcoming meeting will share updates to the design of the New Boston Crossing development planned for southeast of Kansas Highway 10 and Iowa Street.

Developers with Landplan Engineering will host the meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29 at Building 21 of the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2120 Harper St.

Recent iterations of the plans shared with the planning commission and Lawrence City Commission call for mixed-use development of the 177 acres south of town to include single-family homes, townhouses or rowhouses, and multidwelling residential units. It also includes an entertainment district in the middle and some green space and a large pond.

Lawrence community members have voiced a number of concerns about the project near the wetlands, including that the plans would involve filling in the floodplain and building on top of the fill, as well as process and procedural issues.

Topics to be discussed include floodplain and water quality management; wetland and waters impact results; and archaeological study findings, according to an email from the company.

“The primary objective of the outreach meeting is to clearly exhibit the changes that have been made to the project’s design,” according to the email. “The agenda is a brief presentation followed by an open forum for the attendees to ask specific questions and provide additional responses.”
