Last Lawrence Farmers’ Market of the season coming up; save the date for Holiday Market

The Lawrence Farmers’ Market’s regular season is winding to a close, but the annual Holiday Market will be coming up in mid-December.

Everything at the market is produced within a 50-mile radius of Lawrence. That includes the goods at the holiday market, as well.

The last regular market will be from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. this Saturday, Nov. 23 at 824 New Hampshire St.

The holiday market is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 at the open pavilion at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2110 Harper St.

Emily Lysen, director of development for the market, said that new this year will be a gift wrapping station. There will also be expanded parking. And San-Dee Claus will be there for photos from 9 a.m. to noon.

More than 40 vendors have signed up so far to sell items such as baked gods, wine, artwork, knitted items, winter produce, meat, cookies, soap, body care, dried flower arrangements, candies and more.

“This is the opportunity for our vendors to show their creative side,” Lysen said.

It’s also an opportunity for local farmers to help make ends meet over the winter — but so is the last regular market of the season. There will be hot coffee and hot breakfast available on Saturday, Lysen said.

“We still want to encourage everybody to support the local farmers who have been growing for us out in the cold, out in the rain all year round,” she said. “There’s still plenty of late-season crops available.”

See a full list of holiday market vendors on the market’s website. Lysen said some of the regular market’s new vendors this year will be there as well.

The holiday market is still looking for volunteers, especially to hand out flyers at downtown events and to help with setup on the Friday afternoon before the big day. Those who are interested can sign up for a shift at this link.

The indoor farmers market at Cottin’s Hardware will run from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursdays inside the store, 1832 Massachusetts St., through the winter.
