Lawrence firefighters will once again rescue Santa Claus in downtown Lawrence this year with holiday lights aglow.

As the sun sets on Friday, Nov. 29, those in attendance will count down before the lights strung throughout downtown will be lit to commence the holiday season.

Then, look to the roof of Weaver’s Department Store, where Santa will find himself in need of saving. Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical will be there to get him back on solid ground.

There will be also be a North Pole Post Office outpost tent where children can submit letters to Santa. Supplies will be accessible there, or templates can be found online to download and complete beforehand. Templates are available in English and Spanish. Those who include a return address might just receive a reply from Santa.

The 2024 Holiday Lighting Ceremony and Santa Rescue is set to begin at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29 in the area of Ninth and Massachusetts streets. It’s free to attend and open to everyone.

KLWN will broadcast holiday music starting at 5:30 p.m.
