The City of Lawrence is inviting the community to an open house to learn about the design of an expanded Bob Billings Parkway west of Kansas Highway 10 “to accommodate future growth of the City.”

“The design will explore how to change the existing township-maintained, partially unpaved two-lane rural road to an urban arterial roadway,” according to the project website.

The city anticipates construction of the first phase of the stretch of road, roughly a half-mile stretch from the Kansas Highway 10 interchange west, in 2026.

The city does not yet have a date for construction of the second phase, the rest of the roadway west to East 800 Road.

The open house is set for 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4 at the Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, in the Tom Wilkerson Room.

“At this open house ‘come and go’ style of meeting, residents will have the opportunity to meet the project team, learn about the project, and ask questions,” according to the city.
