Boil advisory rescinded for Douglas County Rural Water District No. 6; water is fine

State health officials have rescinded a boil water advisory originally issued Monday for the Douglas County Rural Water District No. 6 public water supply system.

The advisory took effect Monday and was set to remain in effect “until the conditions that placed the system at risk of bacterial contamination are resolved,” according to a previous news release from the county.

Kansas Department of Health and Environment officials issued the advisory “because of a waterline break resulting in a loss of pressure in the distribution system. Failure to maintain adequate pressure may result in a loss of chlorine residuals and bacterial contamination.”

However, drinking water samples collected “indicate no evidence of bacteriological contamination and all other conditions that placed the system at risk of contamination are deemed by KDHE officials to be resolved,” according to a Thursday update.

The district covers a northern portion of Douglas County but does not include the cities of Lecompton or Lawrence.
