Update, 2:56 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4:
Lawrence Transit has canceled all bus service until Monday after Lawrence streets became too dangerous to continue operating.
Transit on Friday announced possible closures and planned to continue priority routes as long as safely possible. Those priority routes, too, were canceled as of Saturday afternoon.
“Please stay tuned for a potential late start time,” according to Lawrence Transit’s announcement.
Original post from Friday, Jan. 3:
Lawrence Transit has canceled on demand service for the coming weekend and might cancel some fixed routes depending on weather conditions.
Fixed-route bus service is planned to begin operating as usual on Saturday, Jan. 4. However, weather conditions are expected to worsen during the day Saturday.
“If the weather begins to affect service, we will follow our notification protocol and implement a priority route system,” according to a Friday news release. Lawrence Transit could reduce service frequency, delay start times, operate on detours and/or suspend service of some routes if necessary, according to its inclement weather policy.
If necessary, the following routes will be prioritized and others will be canceled as needed, according to the release:
- Routes 1 and 5
- Routes 2 and 3
- Route 4
- Route 7 (note no interline with Route 9)
- Route 6
Route 1 is the main serving the Lawrence Community Shelter. See full routes and schedules at this link; see realtime bus location info at this link.
“Fixed-route service is planned to resume on Monday, Jan. 6. Please stay tuned for a potential late start time,” according to the release. In addition, KU campus conditions may cause reroutes on Monday, according to the release.
On Demand service will be canceled Saturday and Sunday but is planned to resume at 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6.
Lawrence Transit encourages paratransit riders to consider canceling all nonpriority trips on Saturday, and same-day booking will not be available, according to the release.
