The City of Lawrence will delay solid waste services scheduled for Monday, Jan. 6, because of the ongoing winter storm.

“This decision was made out of an abundance of caution and concern for the safety of our Solid Waste team members,” according to a news release from the city Sunday morning.

Operations will resume Tuesday, Jan. 7. Regular Monday customers will have their trash picked up on Tuesday, Tuesday customers on Wednesday and so on throughout the week.

“If further changes or delays to solid waste services are needed, the City will provide updated information on Monday, January 6, via the City’s official social media channels and press releases,” according to the release. “Residents are encouraged to visit lawrenceks.org/swm to learn more and to sign up for the ReCollect app to receive updates about solid waste services in Lawrence.”

Update, 9:47 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6:

In addition to the delay, the city announced Monday that yard waste, bulk services and Christmas tree collection will be suspended for the entire week and will resume Monday, Jan. 13.

In addition, roll-off services are not running Tuesday, Jan. 7.

“We will evaluate the possibility of resuming roll-off service for Wednesday and provide updates via the City’s social media channels,” according to the announcement.

“Due to snow drifts and icy terrain, some areas may remain inaccessible to our crews,” the announcement continued. “Staff will monitor these areas throughout the week and attempt service when conditions improve. We understand the inconvenience these changes may cause and appreciate the patience of our customers as we work through these challenges.”
