A “Haskell Update and Community Response” meeting is coming up Friday at a Lawrence church.

First Presbyterian Church invites community members to come show support and listen to a faculty member and students from Haskell Indian Nations University as they share updates.

The meeting comes a week after nearly 40 Haskell faculty and staff members were laid off from their jobs when the Trump administration made sweeping, indiscriminate cuts to federal employees nationwide, targeting some based on their unprotected status. (Read more at this link.)

The event is set for 5:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21 in the fellowship hall of the church at 2415 Clinton Parkway. The hall is at the south end of the church, and ample parking is available.

“Questions and comments from those attending will be welcome – limits to comments will be requested,” Rev. Thad Holcombe said in an email announcing the event.
