The Lawrence Music Alliance has announced March as Music Business Month, a citywide initiative supporting local musicians, industry professionals and creatives through workshops, networking events and mentorship opportunities.

“Musicians are small business owners, and our goal is to provide the resources and knowledge they need to succeed in today’s music industry,” Nick Carswell, LMA director, said in a news release.

The month is “all about strengthening the local music economy, connecting artists with industry experts and ensuring that music remains a vital part of our community,” Carswell said in the release.

As part of the initiative, LMA has organized a variety of events designed to equip local musicians and creatives with the tools they need to thrive. Here are some of the key events:

The events are open to all musicians, venue workers and industry professionals looking to grow their careers and connect with their peers.

According to the Lawrence Music Census, a community-led data initiative to gain better understanding of the music needs of the city, the Lawrence music community generates a total of $13 million in income annually across all respondents. However, a rising cost of living is a key concern for musicians, and Lawrence musicians are some of the lowest paid across 25 cities studied. Read more about the census in this article.
