Public Health After Dark panel to spotlight gun violence, prevention in Douglas County

Local experts will share data and perspectives on homicides, suicides and gun violence in Douglas County during the upcoming Public Health After Dark panel.

The event is set for 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 27 at the Lawrence Public Library.

Dee Kinard, informatics manager at Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health, will share preliminary public health data on violence and firearm injuries.

Panelists will include Lawrence Police Chief Rich Lockhart, Douglas County Undersheriff Stacy Simmons, Eudora High School Principal Bill DeWitt, and Jomella Watson-Thompson, KU professor and principal investigator and director of the Youth Violence Prevention Center – Kansas City. They will share their perspectives and thoughts on how to address and prevent violence, according to a news release from LDCPH.

There will be free snacks. RSVPs are requested, but not required, at this link. The event is open to the public.
