The United Way of Kaw Valley has opened applications for local people and organizations to seek up to $5,000 in grant funding for work to elevate marginalized community members.
“The United Way envisions a just, equitable and inclusive community for residents of all racial and ethnic backgrounds,” according to information from UWKV. “The United Way of Kaw Valley acknowledges that the fight against poverty must be inclusive and anti-racist. The focus of this grant is to support projects that build community, leadership, and direct support for marginalized community groups.”
The grants are open to grassroots and/or community nonprofit organizations in Douglas County, with “projects focused on increasing equity and opportunities for local BIPOC communities,” according to the eligibility criteria.
“These grants provide support for organizations or individuals whose work benefits people with low incomes, communities of color, and historically and/or systematically marginalized people. Collaborative efforts and coalitions are eligible to apply.”
The highest priority will be given to projects that focus on the intersections of racism and poverty, according to UWKV. Businesses, schools, government programs, and college or university programs are not eligible.
The deadline to apply is noon Friday, April 4, and funding decisions will be communicated on or before April 14.

Paper applications are available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fridays at the UWKV office, 1127 Iowa St.
