The city is inviting community members and Lawrence Regional Airport users to an open house to learn more about the airport’s future and review potential development concepts.
“The Airport Master Plan is a long-term guide for the airport’s growth, ensuring it can continue to serve general aviation users for years to come,” according to a city news release announcing the event. “Proposed development options include infrastructure improvements that may be anticipated over the next 20 years, supporting both existing and future aviation activity.”
The open house is set for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 3 at the Airport Terminal Building, 1930 Airport Road in North Lawrence.
There will be no formal presentation, but community members can ask questions of city officials and project team members, review concepts and provide feedback.
“The City of Lawrence encourages residents, airport users, and anyone interested in the future of the airport to attend,” according to the release. “Your input is valuable in shaping the next steps for this vital community resource.”
The city has received grants to cover improvements of the airport’s apron and an update to the master plan, which was completed in 2012.
The city’s Aviation Advisory Board will meet and receive an update on the master plan work the day prior. Their meeting is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 2 at City Hall, 6 E. Sixth St. The meeting will also be livestreamed on the city’s YouTube page, youtube.com/lawrenceksvideo.
See the full meeting agenda at this link, though there were no supporting materials to provide more information about the master plan update as of Friday afternoon. An analysis of facility requirements was included in the agenda for the board’s February meeting, and that is available at this link.
