Lawrence nonprofit 100 Good Women will soon host its annual clothing exchange. The public is invited to donate gently used, clean clothing, shoes and jewelry, which are then put back on sale for $1 each.

The clothing exchange will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 19 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Building 21, 2120 Harper St.

People can drive up to donate clothing on the east side of the building from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day, or from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 18.

The proceeds help power the work of 100 Good Women, a volunteer-based organization, as they support community members in need with groceries, household goods, car repairs and beyond. The clothing exchange is its largest fundraiser, held annually for more than 20 years.

“The event has exploded in popularity,” said Jennie Washburn, a founding member of 100 Good Women. “We’ve kept outgrowing our venues, from a member’s house to the train depot to a dealership on Iowa Street. People love the happy-go-lucky atmosphere.”

Shoppers can refresh their closet at ultra-thrift prices while also enjoying complimentary snacks, drinks and raffles that benefit a good cause. Past raffle prizes have included original artwork, handmade quilts, coffee baskets, massages, and more.

The event also offers complimentary wine, snacks, and other baked goods. (100 Good Women / Contributed photo)

“It’s like the best party you attend every year,” said Lisa Nelick, volunteer coordinator at 100 Good Women. “The snacks are especially popular because we have volunteers work hard to make them beautiful, tasty and shoppable. With a little cup of goodies and a glass of wine, it feels like your favorite shopping trip with all your friends.”

Contact info@100goodwomen.org to volunteer to work the event. Adults and teens are welcome.
