An annual celebration of the Wakarusa Wetlands as well as the Lawrence Earth Day Fair are coming up Saturday, April 19.
The wetlands celebration, set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Medicine Wheel Earthwork south of the Haskell Indian Nations University campus, will feature a lineup of authors, musicians and artists.
The Lawrence Public Library, Raven Book Store and Haskell are teaming up for the celebration.
Organizers recommend bringing a refillable water bottle and a lawn chair or blanket, and arriving at least 15 minutes early to allow time for the walk to the Medicine Wheel. A Land Rover will be available for mobility assistance over the uneven ground.
See the lineup of speakers, find more info and register for the event at this link.
Next up, the Lawrence Earth Day Fair is set for 1 to 4 p.m. at South Park, hosted by the Watkins Museum of History in partnership with the city.
“Celebrate our planet’s amazing natural resources and learn how we can protect them!” the City of Lawrence’s website states. “The Fair at South Park in Downtown Lawrence is a free event featuring lots of earth-friendly crafts and activities for the whole family.”
See the city’s website at lawrenceks.org/earth-day for tips on how to be Earth-friendly this month and beyond.
Also planned for April 19 is an annual cleanup of the banks of the Kaw River. Read more about that at this link.
