The Lawrence school district has named Jason Schroeder as the next assistant principal/athletic director of Free State High School.

Schroeder said in a news release from the district that he’s honored and excited to take the job.

“I’m passionate about supporting students both in the classroom and through athletics, and I look forward to building strong relationships with our staff, students, and school families,” he said in the release.

Schroeder spent eight years as an assistant principal and athletic-activities director for the Atchison and Holton public schools, according to the release. He has previously served as an athletic director, taught physical education, developed digital high school credit recovery courses and elementary enhancement programs, and coached for seven years in McLouth, according to the release.

Schroeder earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Kansas and his master’s at Emporia State University.

Schroeder will begin transitioning to the position in June and succeed Jered Shaw, who started at Free State in July 2022, according to the release.
