Community members gathered for annual events Saturday to help clean up the banks of the Kansas River, and to learn more about their natural surroundings and how to sustain them.
Despite the chilly weather Saturday morning, volunteers showed up to clean debris from the riverbanks. In this year’s annual cleanup, “literal tons of trash” were removed from the banks, according to the event’s organizers, Friends of the Kaw.
More than 30 groups, organizations and businesses were represented at the Earth Day Fair Saturday afternoon at South Park.
Lawrence Transit also unveiled art by Tokeya Waci U Richardson, Oglala Lakota / Haliwa-Saponi, that is now adorning an electric bus.
