The dean of the Haskell Indian Nations University College of Business has been named as interim president of the university.

The U.S. Bureau of Indian Education announced Monday that Mackie Moore will serve in the role while the BIE collaborates with the Haskell Board of Regents in a national search for the next permanent president, according to a BIE spokesperson.

“His appointment ensures continuity of leadership as the university continues its mission to serve Native students from federally recognized tribes across the country,” the spokesperson said via email.

After around two years as president, Frank Arpan on May 23 announced his resignation, and Wednesday will be his final day.

Moore is a Haskell alum who holds more than 20 years of tribal and higher education leadership experience, including in academic administration, student success and institutional development, the spokesperson said.
