Flaggers will direct traffic as lanes will be reduced on the west leg of the South Lawrence Trafficway (Kansas Highway 10) this week.
The highway will be reduced to one lane between Kasold Drive and Iowa Street on Wednesday, July 9. It will be reduced to one lane through the Clinton Parkway interchange on Thursday, July 10.
Work is planned from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., conditions permitting, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.
“The reductions are necessary so that crews can place concrete barriers along the roadway that will close off the shoulder areas for widening work,” according to a news release from KDOT. “These barriers are expected to be in place for approximately four weeks.”
There will also be a work zone speed limit of 55 mph through the SLT project corridor, which is between the Sixth Street and Iowa Street interchanges, according to the release.
In addition, there will be a controlled blast along the highway between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Wednesday, according to KDOT. Traffic will be stopped between the Clinton Parkway and Wakarusa Drive/27th Street interchanges for “no more than 15 minutes” at some point within that window.
The work is part of a project to widen the west leg of the SLT into a four-lane highway.
