Around 1 a.m. Wednesday, a passerby saw the driver lying on the south side of the island of the roundabout at Clinton Parkway and Lake Pointe Drive, which is a little more than a mile west of Wakarusa Drive.

“Several members of LKPD’s Accident Investigation Unit responded and spent the overnight hours collecting evidence,” LPD wrote in a Facebook post Wednesday morning. “They’re confident speed played a role in the crash.”

Police said the motorcyclist is not from Kansas or Missouri. Officers were still working to ensure his loved ones were notified before releasing his name, according to the post.

Update, 6:02 p.m. Wednesday, July 9:

Police identified the motorcyclist as David Craig Evans, 44, of Gallatin, Tennessee, in an update Wednesday afternoon.
