Like speed dating but for civic engagement, an upcoming forum will allow voters to become acquainted with Lawrence City Commission candidates.
Twelve candidates are actively vying for two commission seats. The top four winners of the Tuesday, Aug. 5 primary will advance to the general election on Nov. 4.
The League of Women Voters of Lawrence-Douglas County, NAACP Lawrence Kansas Branch, and Lawrence/Douglas County Chapter of Women for Kansas opted to host a “Speed Campaign Event” because of the large pool, according to a news release. Attendees will be directed to rotate through tables to maximize time with each candidate.
The nonpartisan event is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, July 19 at the Lawrence Public Library auditorium, 707 Vermont St. It’s free to attend and open to all.

Tuesday, July 15 is the final day to register to vote or update your voter registration for the primary election. Douglas County voters can register quickly, update their voter registration if they’ve moved or had any other changes, and/or request a mail ballot online at KSVotes.org.
