Lawrence Memorial Hospital’s expanded and renovated Cancer Center is scheduled to open next week and will fully integrate radiation oncology staff from Precision Cancer Care in August.
The Lawrence community is invited to attend an open house and tour of the improved facility.
Construction on the expansion began in 2024, as LMH providers were accommodating large numbers of cancer patients in insufficient facilities.
“LMH Health oncologists and hematologists support more than 19,000 patient encounters each year, yet their current space was built to serve 2,400 patients in 2001,” according to a news release.

The new clinic will offer more treatment and exam rooms, an expanded waiting room and family lounge area and increased laboratory space with facilities for clinical trials. Patients will also have access to new education and consultation rooms.
Renovations emphasize natural light to create a more comfortable patient experience and a “modern pharmacy space to support complex infusion medications,” according to the release.
Precision Cancer Care doctors Darren Klish and Ben Slane will be fully on board with the cancer center in August, allowing the center to provide both medical and radiation oncology services in one clinic.
“There is a lot of benefit to joining forces with LMH Health, including the additional confidence it imparts to patients who are deciding where to get care,” said Klish, who will be the medical director for the radiation oncology program. “Patients will have the simplicity of one bill and the ability to participate in clinical trials.”
The Cancer Center, located at 330 Arkansas St., will officially open Monday, July 14.
Community members can join the open house and facilities tour from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 19, by going through the new entrance on the west side of the building.
