Police on Friday released the names of a 21-year-old man shot and killed Thursday night and the suspected shooter who police say then took his own life.

A 22-year-old Lawrence woman who was also shot and critically injured was taken to a hospital by helicopter. She remained hospitalized as of 1 a.m. Friday; we have asked police if they have any updates on her condition.

The shootings occurred shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday in the southern end of the Edgewood Homes complex, which is in the 1600 block of Haskell Avenue.

Police said the woman came home to find a 24-year-old Lawrence man, Donavon Deleon, in her residence. The two had recently ended a relationship, police said.

After an altercation inside, the woman fled to a nearby truck where 21-year-old Javien Hardin, of Lawrence, was waiting, according to police.

Police allege that Deleon then shot Hardin inside the truck, pursued the woman and shot her as she ran away. They believe Deleon then took his own life, they said.

Police had notified next of kin for the two deceased men late Thursday or early Friday, according to a news release from the department.
