A 30-year-old Lawrence cyclist has died from injuries he suffered from being struck by a vehicle Tuesday evening outside of Eudora, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

The cyclist, Clayton L. Place, died Wednesday evening in the hospital.

Place and a 70-year-old Lawrence man driving a Honda Element were both westbound in the 2000 block of North 1400 Road, also known as Old K-10, when the vehicle struck Place just after 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Medics had taken Place to a Kansas City-area hospital by ambulance with life-threatening injuries.

“The Sheriff’s Office gives our condolences to his family and friends,” George Diepenbrock, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, said via email Thursday.

“Deputies will complete a formal crash report with their findings on the details of the crash,” he said.
