The Lawrence Public Library on Saturday will host a community celebration of cultures and mark the end of its annual summer reading program.
The Last Bash and Multicultural Fair is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16 on the lawn at the library, 707 Vermont St. It’s free to attend, and there will be popsicles, Regal Theaters popcorn and other treats.
Organizations slated to present activities this year include Small World Lawrence, an English language program for women; the KU Center for East Asian Studies; the KU Center for Russian, East European & Eurasian Studies and more, according to the event page. DJ José Biz will play Tejano tunes.
Summer Reading Challenge participants can get their prizes from Dottie, the library’s mobile outreach van, during the event.
The library first put on the Multicultural Fair in July 2024 to “celebrate the importance and vibrancy” of multiculturalism.
“This is the perfect event for the whole family to dance, make crafts, and visit friends and neighbors stationed on the lawn to learn about the diverse cultures of our community together,” according to the library’s event page.
