The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will have more deputies on patrol than usual this weekend through Labor Day, looking for impaired and distracted drivers.
“There are many exciting things happening this time of year with college and school starting and people looking to celebrate around Labor Day weekend,” Douglas County Sheriff Jay Armbrister said in a news release from DGSO. “We encourage everyone to celebrate safely in avoiding distractions, and if you drink, don’t drive.”
Drivers convicted of impaired driving can face stiff penalties and costs from fines, legal fees and lost time at work.
The enhanced patrols are as part of the “You Drink. You Drive. You Lose” campaign, according to the release.
The campaign is funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration with safety funds administered by the Kansas Department of Transportation, according to the release.
