The city aims to open one lane of Tennessee Street between Sixth and Ninth streets this week, while keeping blocks of Eighth Street east and west of Tennessee closed.
Here are the details, according to city news releases:
Tennessee Street between 6th and 9th Streets, and 8th Street:
Multiple blocks of Tennessee Street have been closed to update storm water infrastructure as part of the Jayhawk Watershed project.
While work remains ongoing, city contractors are aiming to open the left lane of traffic on Tennessee between Sixth and Ninth Streets by Wednesday, Aug. 20. The right lane and parking lane will remain closed while contractors complete and connect nearby buildings to the water main.
Eighth Street traffic has also been impacted by the Jayhawk Watershed project. East of Tennessee, Eighth Street will remain closed in both directions for “several more weeks” as the road is repaved, according to the city. Eighth Street will also remain closed west of Tennessee through the fall.
“This project will have impacts for Ohio St. and Louisiana St. in the coming months,” per the city.
More information about the project is available on the city’s website at this link.
27th Street between Iowa and Lawrence Avenue:
Westbound 27th Street between Iowa Street and Lawrence Avenue was reopened Aug. 14 after closure, while eastbound lanes were closed.
The city anticipates flip-flopping this in the near future, so that westbound is closed and eastbound is open again for asphalt overlay work.
The project is part of the city’s street maintenance program. This phase of construction is expected to end in early September.
