Tim O’Brien and Jan Fabricius will headline the 44th Annual Kansas State Fiddling and Picking Championships, also known as FidPick, in Lawrence.

The free event, set for noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24 at South Park, will feature live performances, a band competition and individual instrument competitions.

Food and drink vendors will sell tacos, barbecue, local craft beer, coffee and more. Activities for kids will be available.

“Bring your blankets and lawn chairs, and instruments if you play,” according to the event’s website.

For the state fiddle championship this year, each contestant will play two tunes, a waltz and a song of their choice.

In the event of rain, the event will either be delayed or change locations by 11 a.m. Sunday. If moved indoors, competitions and concerts will be held at Abe and Jakes Landing, 8 E. Sixth St. As of Tuesday, the National Weather Service forecast for Sunday showed mostly sunny skies with a high of 81°, and a 20% chance of showers.

FidPick is a nonprofit “dedicated to the participation, promotion and preservation of traditional American acoustic music,” according to their website.
