Tickets for John Green’s free talk at the Lied Center have all been distributed, so organizers are planning watch parties.
KU Reads announced in May that John Green would give a free talk and book signing 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the Lied Center, 1600 Stewart Drive. Green’s essay collection, “The Anthropocene Reviewed,” is this year’s common book selection.
Tickets, limited to four per person, became available to KU students, faculty and staff starting Monday, Aug. 18. Remaining tickets were supposed to be available to the general public Friday, Aug. 22. However, all available seats — just fewer than 2,000 — were claimed in less than three days by KU-affiliated folks.
Returned tickets will be handed out to a standby line at 6 p.m. the night of the event. Remaining open seats can be claimed at 6:50 p.m.
“Due to the swift sellout, organizers are planning several watch parties to provide additional opportunities for fans and community members to collectively experience the event,” according to a KU news release.
The watch parties will take place on the Hall Center’s Crowdcast channel. Viewers don’t need to register in advance but must sign up for a free Crowdcast account.
University students, staff, faculty and campus partners can request free copies of “The Anthropocene Reviewed” at Watson and Anschutz libraries.
KU Reads has multiple events, themed around Green’s book, slated for this school year. Most are open to the general public. Learn more in this article.
