Person struck by train in Lawrence, killed

A person was struck by a train and killed Thursday evening in eastern Lawrence, according to police.

The strike was reported around 7:07 p.m. Thursday on the tracks just east of 11th Street and Haskell Avenue, according to Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical’s PulsePoint app.

Police had blocked off 11th Street in the area and had asked people to avoid the area. The roadway had reopened as of 9:40 p.m. Thursday, according to police.

No further information was available as of the time of publication.
