Here’s a quick roundup of closures to know for the Labor Day weekend in Lawrence.
• Parking will be free at meters and in lots and garages in downtown Lawrence on Monday, Sept. 1.
• Trash pickup will not be delayed — trash, recycling and yard waste collection will operate as normal.
That’s because of a change to the holiday solid waste collection schedule that went into effect this year. (Trash collection will only pause for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.)
However, there will be no rolloff services, cart/dumpster swaps, deliveries or maintenance, or bulk item pickups on the holiday.
• Sports Pavilion Lawrence, administrative offices in South Park, and Prairie Park Nature Center will be closed Monday.
• Other rec centers — the Community Building, Holcom Park and East Lawrence recreation centers — will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
No unified recreation programs, lifelong recreation or fitness, dance, martial arts, instructional classes, open gym gymnastics, ninja, gymnastics, adult or youth sports will be held Monday.
• Lawrence Transit fixed-route and paratransit buses will not operate on Monday, and Central Station will be closed. Regular service will resume Tuesday.
• The Lawrence Public Library will be closed Sunday, Aug. 31 and Monday, Sept. 1, but the digital library is open 24/7.
• The Outdoor Aquatic Center, 727 Kentucky St., will be open from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday before it closes for the season. (Pooch Plunge is set for Tuesday.) The Indoor Aquatic Center will be closed.
• Eagle Bend Golf Course will accept tee times from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, and the range will be open from 7 a.m. to dusk.
• City of Lawrence and Douglas County government offices will be closed Monday.
• Douglas County District Court will be closed.
• The cemeteries office will be closed, but all cemeteries will be open throughout the day.
• Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center will be closed on Labor Day.
If you or someone you know is in crisis, the Treatment & Recovery Center of Douglas County is available 24/7 at 1000 W. Second St. HeadQuarters Kansas crisis line is also available by calling 785-841-2345 or 988.
• Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health will be closed Monday.
