Monarch Watch open house attendees can greet the season’s migrating pollinators

Monarch Watch’s fall open house will allow folks of all ages to welcome the butterflies as they migrate from the north, while learning about our pollinators.

The open house will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 at Foley Hall on KU’s West Campus.

With a garden tour, games and activities, the open house will allow adults and children to explore a butterfly and pollinator plot that the Douglas County Master Gardeners planted and maintained. In ideal weather conditions, more than 20 species of butterflies might visit the garden in a day.

During the event, guests will see caterpillars, enjoy butterfly tagging demonstrations and learn about Monarch Waystations, which provide migration-sustaining resources to the winged creatures.

“Weather permitting, you will see an abundance of butterflies and numerous other small but important pollinators,” according to the event page
