The Lawrence Public Library will host its annual fall series for adult readers as “Booktoberfest” returns for the fifth year.
Events throughout the month include book trivia, an after-hours scavenger hunt at the library, film discussions and more, according to a news release. Local authors George Frazier and Rachel McCarthy James will be featured.
“Booktoberfest is for adults who are looking for some bookish fun as the weather turns to cozy reading season,” Polli Kenn, readers’ services supervisor at the library, said in the release.
The event series will kick off with a screening of “Rebel with a Clause,” with an appearance from the subject of the documentary, Ellen Jovin.
Jovin wrote about her travels as an itinerant grammarian in her book, “Rebel with a Clause: Tales and Tips from a Roving Grammarian.” She’ll sign copies at the event and delve into conversation with attendees.
“Jovin’s book and the accompanying documentary are about grammar, sure, but they are also about the way language connects us — our shared understandings and misunderstandings, the vulnerability to strike up conversations during times of division, and the ability to find commonalities,” Kenn said in the release.
The “Rebel with a Clause” screening is scheduled for 4 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28 at Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts St. in downtown Lawrence. See a trailer below.
Booktoberfest events will continue through Saturday, Oct. 25. All events are free. The library encourages preregistration.
