The annual Kaw Valley Farm Tour will soon return, offering opportunities for people of all ages to interact with farm animals, pick flowers and produce, sample local food and drink, learn about sustainable agriculture and more.

There are 33 farms and six heritage sites included on this year’s tour map. Adventurers of all ages will be able to explore and interact with diverse locales, including pumpkin patches, flower fields, livestock farms, apiaries and wineries.

Tour participants can visit any of the sites from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5.

There will be special events at multiple heritage sites and farms throughout the weekend, including guided tours of the “Americans” exhibition at the Watkins Museum of History, a weaving demonstration at the Wakarusa River Valley Heritage Museum and a Bleeding Kansas play at The Territorial Capital Museum.

The Kaw Valley Farm Tour is rain or shine, and drivers should anticipate unpaved roads. Attendees should not arrive at farms early or stay late.

Pets, such as dogs, are not allowed on the tour, but organizers encourage participants to bring coolers to store fresh produce or seasonal items sold at the farms.

It is recommended for attendees to bring water and snacks in case the goodies at their desired locations have run out. Children are welcome and encouraged to participate, but should be diligently supervised.

Organizers estimate that folks will be able to realistically visit four or five farms per day of the tour. People can use the digital tour map to plan their routes.

Tickets can be purchased here for $15 per carload. Folks can show their ticket receipt at their first location to receive a physical ticket and guidebook.
